Arctic Council SAO Chair and Danish SAO visited us in Guovdageaidnu

Chair of the Senior Arctic Officials, Kenneth Høegh, and Senior Arctic Official for the Kingdom of Denmark, Torsten Kjølby Nielsen, visited the office of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry (ICR) and the Secretariat of the World Reindeer Herders (WRH) in Guovdageaidnu, where they learned more about our work, ongoing projects, and our efforts to support reindeer herding communities across the Arctic.

The Kingdom of Denmark (which includes Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands) holds the rotating Chairship of the Arctic Council for the 2025–2027 term. 5 priority topics during the Kingdom of Denmark’s Chairship: Indigenous Peoples and Communities of the Arctic/ Sustainable Economic Development and Energy Transition Solutions/  Oceans /Climate change in the Arctic /Biodiversity.

 

The Arctic Youth Conference, scheduled to take place in Nuuk, Greenland, from 26–28 February 2027, was also discussed during the meeeting and it is one of the key upcoming events of the Danish Chairship of the Arctic Council. ICR and WRH are proud to support this initiative and are planning to bring the NOMAD Indigenous FoodLab to Greenland as part of the conference activities.
